This book is a complete let down and at best a brochure/advertisement for you to visit their SEO marketing website and employ their services. And the fact there were so many positive reviews makes me cynically think that the authors of this book knew how to game Amazon's website and put up bogus positive reviews. It should be titled "The Hidden Truth: How I Fooled Kindle Users to Pay Double for Info that Could've Gotten Free".
There is not one thing in this book that's a 'Hidden Truth'. Everything in this book I have read for free years ago on 'net. I was really hoping there would be just a few nuggets of advice that would help us improve our rankings. But nada. I could give more meaningful advice on SEO than this author did.
The book is ridiculously short (equivalent of probably 30-40 pages), making you feel even more ripped off that you paid $17 - more than you'd pay for a real and quality book for $9.99 on Amazon.com.
Save your money and do a search on Google for "how to optimize my web page for search engines" or something similar, and get much than what's contained in this book for free and in a few minutes.
NOTE: of all the Reviews you'll see here, I am the ONLY one that's a verified buyer (sucker).

Facebook Marketing For Dummies Review

Facebook Marketing For Dummies
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I normally adore Dummies books. I have several of them on my shelves. Facebook Marketing for Dummies is the first in the Dummies series that I did NOT like enthusiastically. I really feel this book is not up to the Dummies standard of helpfulness.
First, this book is supposed to be about MARKETING - but over half the book is about the very basics of Facebook. There are plenty of other books out there on how to use Facebook - including one by the Dummies group! It seems silly for this book on marketing to rehash the existing information and spend so much time on things covered elsewhere. It means that only a small portion of what remains is actually helpful information on Marketing.
They cover a few basics about the areas of Facebook to use for marketing - how a fan page is better than a regular "personal" account because a person can only have 5,000 friends while a fan page is completely unlimited. Fan pages are also "anonymous" - while a group makes it clear which person is the administrator, with a fan page the administrator is private. So you can run a fan page for your company or project without worrying about people tracking down and bugging your personal account.
But in terms of actual MARKETING information, the pickings are very slim. They tell you to post relevant info onto your account. Was anyone really going to post a lot of IRrelevant information? They say to post enough to keep people interested, but not so much that you bombard your users with too many messages. But they don't provide any examples or information to help newbies get a feel for which numbers fall into which ranges! They tell you not to use a "hard sell" and turn off people - but again, no examples, no further information.
In terms of drawing in visitors, they focus primarily on paying Facebook to use their ad system, and that's about it. They mention putting a Facebook tag in your email and on your site, and again, that's it. That's all you are learning about marketing your Facebook fan page?
There's an entire section on pushing contests - about how you can do them with random winners, or with the judging of submissions, and how this is great for traffic building. But NOWHERE in that entire section do they even mention legalities of doing all of this! How about the legalities of taking personal information from winners who are under the age of 13? How about the legalities of having a winner who hails from South Africa or other countries which have strict rules about entering online contests? Some countries have quite serious penalties for companies who offer contests and sweepstakes to "their residents" without doing legal paperwork first! It was completely shocking to me that a book in the Dummies series would offer seriously flawed legal advice like this.
In their "why do marketing on Facebook" section, one of their top ten reasons is "to run promotions for fans". This doesn't make sense to me. This is one of the things you use Facebook FOR but it's not a reason TO have a Facebook account. Reasons are things like "to get a higher ranking in Google" or "to get free word-of-mouth mentions by people in Facebook's network". It's as if they ran out of real reasons and they had to stick something in there to fill out the top 10 list.
When they finally hit issues which ARE important in Facebook marketing - like dealing with irate fans posting on your public business area, there is hardly a few lines dedicated to the topic. If anything, this is the sort of thing that the book should be covering in great detail.
And how about their commandment of "don't drink and Facebook"?? I run a wine site! My wine site page is ALL about drinking wine, and that is what all the members do. Many of them come online when they're drinking wine and we discuss what we're drinking. If what the book was trying to say is "don't post when you're drunk" then that is a COMPLETELY different issue and one they should have been more clear about.
I just can't state how disappointed I was with this book. Looking at other reviews on Amazon, it seems like half of them were primarily swayed by a "$50 Facebook ad credit" they got - but I don't see that credit ANYWHERE in my book. I even went back and re-read the entire Marketing chapter to see if I missed it somewhere. I still can't find a free credit. If it's in here somewhere, they didn't make it very obvious.
Not recommended. You could get far more out of their regular Marketing book, and simply apply that great knowledge to the Facebook world.
UPDATE: I talked directly with the "Dummies" publishers. The book currently DOES NOT HAVE ANY GIFT AD CREDIT. So if you are buying the book based on those "ad credit" promotions on Amazon, you will NOT GET IT.

Grow Your Online Sales Review

Greg Jameson begins by telling you the many reasons that you should have a website online. In addition, he provides helpful suggestions for choosing a good domain name. What I fould beneficial are the "types of pages" he says should be included on your site. Questions that I also had that were answered in this book are:
- what are the free ways to generate traffic to a website & the multiple places to get links
- he explains how to do email marketing, what to include, and why it's important
- how you can get usable content for your website, newsletters, etc. He points out a clever trick to find free downloads of
pdf's about any subject which you could utilize to create your own content
- an explanation of what resolution is best for images used on your site & the importance of getting this right
- why creating videos to take advantage of youtube is a smart thing for businesses & how setting up a youtube channel is valuable
to users
- why adding a pop-up written message from within youtube could possibly cause a person to visit your website
- how to get the most from your presence on facebook or position yourself as an expert by blogging
- his description of different problems that your site could face & what one thing you can do to find out these problems have
happened sooner to protect you from revenue losses
But the part of most significance to me was his breakdown of decisions you need to make when dealing with the setup of money collection from customers. These include what you need to make customers comfortable in making a purchase at your site, why your shopping cart choice is so important, and his simplified chart which illustrates what happens when a customer uses his credit card. All-in-all, this is a great book to have. It has so much interesting and unique information that I most definitely would want to own more of Greg Jameson's books. It contains items that can prevent you from making some costly mistakes and ways to create more customers for your site.

I got this book a few weeks ago. I read it in 30 minutes, which was easy because the type is big and there is a lot of space between the paragraphs and more importantly, there is almost nothing to be learned from this book if you have read any other book on marketing... ever.
So I put it down and went back to Amazon to see if I had misread the ratings the book had. I could not understand why 11 people would give it 5 stars. I shop Amazon specifically because of the rating system and I wanted to know how 11 people could possibly have given this thing more than 2 stars at most. Not only is it sophomoric, it seems nobody cared about its publication either; there are typos and missing words all over. Now here is the interesting part: 10 of the reviewers who gave it 5 stars did so in a 6 day period in Sept 2008 right after the publication date. After that there is a 3 star review from someone who actually addressed the contents of the book and then one more review after that. And if you look closely, only that one 3-star review actually addresses the contents of the book, the others all say almost the same thing - please read them closely - every single one of them could have been written off the book jacket. So what we have here is a book that teaches nothing, that is being promoted in Guerrilla fashion by his friends who all gave it 5 star reviews in the first week the book shipped. Out of curiosity, I quickly looked at what other books the first 3 reviewers had reviewed, and saw that all 3 had only reviewed this one book except that #3 had also given 5 stars to a book by reviewer #1.
If the book was any good I would say who cares, but it is not a 5 star book. Luckily I was able to return my book, because even an orchestrated effort like this to fool us Amazon shoppers into BUYING the book cannot stop us from returning it.

Internet Marketing-Profits That Lie Hidden In Your Website: How To Triple Your Web Sales In 25 Days Review

Internet Marketing-Profits That Lie Hidden In Your Website: How To Triple Your Web Sales In 25 Days
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This book is from a guy that makes a living from creating ads that sell. That is his real job. He does it for online and offline clients. So while he goes about his daily business he amasses tons of information that he eventually decided to put into a book to sell. I don't get the idea at all that this is some guy who makes a career out of writing Internet marketing guides. As you go through the material you begin to realize something: The guy really knows what he is talking about. You can tell by the examples in the book that he does this stuff both offline and online.
The book is very, very good for those wanting to learn marketing techniques online. Honestly it's like a textbook. In many respects he pulls back the curtain on marketing tactics. I found it helpful for understanding why marketers write the way they do. From the long sales copy to bold claim headlines to web page layouts. Sure we all know that headlines matter, buyers like long reads, etc. But Lance explains it in a way that makes sense and gets you thinking how to implement the tactics in your own sites and landing pages.
The book is full of examples from email writing to headlines to layouts. There is so much information on how to create the right advertisement. If you are doing PPC ads and landing pages then this book is for you. If you have a website and are trying to sell something then this book is for you. OK, if you are already making $5K a month then it's probably not for you. But if you are just starting out trying to sell things on the Internet or are making a humble sum of cash then I really believe that a book like this will help. I've read quite a few PPC ebooks and none are close to this. I believe it is because Lance is actually a professional sales copy writer for both online and offline clients. And you know, PPC success is really all salescopy.
You know how marketers will say that you need to do "X" to convert more sales? And you sit there wondering why? And you get the sense that the joker has no clue why either, but he says so because that's what "they" say works, or learned it from someone else, or saw an example from another salespage. Well Lance explains the why, for every step of building a salespage. You'll read through the manual and think "ah, that's why I'm told to do that", or "so that's why this is suppose to convert better". You get the sense that the guy is simply a pro at what he does and has answers for building webpages that sell.

Direct Web Sales Start with Good Web Design Many small business owners believe all that is needed for good website design is to hire a graphic artist to produce an "online brochure" for the company. Internet Marketing For Free: The Guide: Internet Marketing To Go Review

Internet Marketing For Free: The Guide: Internet Marketing To Go
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)

This book was OK. It had the potential to be a great little book on Internet marketing. However, I just had too much trouble digesting it. I did not see any reason to split the content into three parts, 21 chapters, and an appendix. And there were typos - more than just a few. On top of that, I found the book to be incredibly wordy. And the journalistic style of writing is adequate for newspaper articles, but not for something sold as a book. There were many one-sentence paragraphs throughout. And the page formatting left me thinking I was reading a text file that had been converted to PDF.
If the author had organized the book into eight chapters as follows, and done a nice job of developing a theme in each chapter, then I suspect the book would deserve at least a 4-star rating.
1. Search Engine Optimization
2. Article writing & submission
3. Blogging
4. Posting on online directories
5. Posting press releases on PR directory sites
6. Posting on free classifieds sites
7. Social networking & forums
8. Affiliate programs & Joint ventures
Unfortunately, the book is not so neatly organized. And there are numerous "bonuses" refered to in the book. When I buy a book I expect everything in it to be something I paid for. I don't need to be told I am getting a bonus here and a bonus there.
I was able to get through parts 1 and 2 of the book before I started just skimming the text. There really is a lot of good content in this little ebook masquarading as a POD special. The author qualifies as an infopreneur and she speaks from real world experience in much of what she talks about here. There are a ton of URLs that any infopreneur would probably like to get their hands on. Whether they will be good links in a year or two I don't know. But the raw content in this little tome saves it for me. Otherwise I would have really tanked its star rating. 3 stars!

Perspectives on Social Media Marketing Review

Perspectives on Social Media Marketing
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Social Media has almost exploded in recent two to three years, and has suddenly become the main way of consuming information online for the significant number of Internet users. Consequently it has become increasingly important for all sorts of organizations to adjust their online marketing strategies in order to take a full advantage of the power of social media. In the early days attempts by even the largest corporations to reach their users through social media were haphazard at best (see for instance Twitter Power 2.0 for a few examples of good and bad use of Twitter by several companies), but over the last year or so this mode of marketing has really come a long way and has matured considerably.
"Perspectives on Social Media Marketing" aims to bring some up to date insights into this new mode of marketing. The book is organized around 89 topics/questions. Each question is answered by Stephanie Agresta, who represents the perspective of marketing agencies, and by B. Bonin Bough, who represents a brand perspective. These two seem to be quite familiar with this topic and are able to respond to each of the questions in a fairly informative and detailed manner. Nonetheless, the responses feel more like sales pitches than educationally motivated explanations. I find this rather odd, since I presume that whoever is reading this book is already "sold" on the whole idea of social media marketing. The responses are also filled with some mild jargon and overhyped ideas and terms. There are a few useful actionable hints and strategies, but these tend to be few and far between.
Overall, this is a useful book if you are new to social media marketing, as it will provide you with some basic ideas of what this kind of marketing is all about. However, if you are considering launching a social media campaign, or are interested in promoting your product or service through social media, then you may be disappointed in the amount of useful advice that this book contains.

PERSPECTIVES ON SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING addresses 89 of the most compelling and important issues that marketers face on a regular basis when it comes to social media, providing advice and insight on how to deal with each issue from the perspective of two thought leaders in this arena: Stephanie Agresta from Porter Novelli and B. Bonin Bough from PepsiCo. Together, they discuss what social media is, how it has changed the marketing landscape, how to implement a tactical and strategic social media plan across your organization, how to best measure the ROI of a social media campaign, and more.

ECONOMIC CRISIS - with our (global) economy in grave condition as I write this - and with JOB losses soaring - more and more people are searching for alternative ways to generate more reliable income sources. Add to this, the power of the INTERNET, and a potential solution emerges.
HOME BUSINESS - As a Financial Advisor, Business Consultant and Home Biz Coach - I see employees, professionals and small business owners everywhere liking the idea of running an Online business from home - IF they can get the 'right' education plus the necessary marketing skills.
And thus, the world of Internet Marketing tied to running a profitable Online Home Biz -- enter this new book - - -
MASTERING NICHE MARKETING - this gives enormous value to the reader - both beginner and experienced. It's release is also perfect timing, given the economy. This book truly under-promises and over-delivers. It takes you step-by-step through the whole process of developing a marketing niche. It's the most detailed, comprehensive and exceptional guide to creating and marketing a product Online that I've ever seen or read - bar none. The author removes all the guesswork.
In my opinion, this book gives the reader (the potential Online business entrepreneur) a wonderful "foundation" for pursuing a successful Online business from home. There are far too many "failures" in this industry - because of not being able to 'find' the right niche - or because of the lack of (or poor) training -- this book can change all that as I see it.
ERIC VAN DER HOPE - its author, has high credentials behind him. Perhaps more importantly, he gives a list of his mentors at the beginning, including Ted Nichols, Anthony Robbins, Joe Sugarman, Mark Joyner, (the late) Corey Rudi, Shawn Casey, Frank Kern, Mike Litman + many, many other top marketers - a formidable mastermind group.
Some observations...
NICHE MARKET - Eric defines this as "a small but potentially profitable market segment for which it is possible to design and provide a form of custom-made product or specialized service." It involves 'targeting a group' using information about their specific preferences, which might be a group interested in - exotic vacations - real estate - tennis - gardening, etc.
NO BULL - he 'tells it like it is' in terms of becoming successful with running any Online business -- that there IS a huge market out there where good profits CAN be made -- but, that you'll need MONEY to do it -- that you'll need to take ACTION -- that there's intense COMPETITION -- that you'll need to intelligently 'identify' your market, etc. This approach impressed me.
SPECIFICS - he goes into extraordinary detail with - "Finding the Niche" -- Creating the Product" -- "Developing the Offer" -- "9 Effective Business Models" -- "Top 10 Niche Sourcing Methods" -- Case Studies -- Explicit Pictures, Screenshots, Graphs, Diagrams, Charts, etc. Amazing.
VIRTUAL STOREFRONT - you'll learn of the requirements for your Online biz (choosing Domain names, FTP accounts, Autoresponders, Merchant accounts, Hosting, Video, Audio, etc + Upselling [back-end products], Advertising, Keywords, Social Media Marketing, Testing, Traffic generation - on and on. These are only tip of the iceberg. :-)
BLOGGING - this is the 'only' part (Section 2.9) where I have a tiny disagreement with the author :-) Since developing a BLOG (for profit) can be of tremendous value in these times (as a business by itself) - and whereas he suggests using FREE Blogging platforms (like WordPress.com and/or Blogger.com) - I (personally) strongly recommend using a platform where "you" have the full control. The Free versions give you only limited scope, and they can even be "shut down" on you. The ones where 'you' provide the hosting are far superior in my opinion. I'm referring to WordPress.ORG (not the ".com" Free version). WordPress.ORG - although a little more complex - when it's tied to a good hosting service (like Hostgator.com, or those listed on Eric's page 91) - is considered the top Blog platform by most experts I believe.
ACTION STEPS - what I really liked was the way Eric ended each Phase with a set of specific Action Steps - designed to get you "in production" ASAP.
RESOURCES - he provides SO many links to great tools / systems / websites. This only expands an already rich book on the HOW TO of Internet Marketing. It removes the confusion, the overwhelm and the technical obstacles that hinder so many people that are eager to move forward in this challenging but worthwhile and potentially lucrative industry.
All in all, a magnificant contribution to the world of Internet Marketing.
My thanks to the author for this timely masterpiece - it's a classic.
Without question, I give this a full "5-STAR" rating.
Sincerely,
Peter Arnold, CLU, CFC / Founder

This is a great, handy book to guide you through the internet jungle and will save you many hours of research. I really wish I had had this book before I set up my website. I ended up learning bits and pieces here and there through different people, and it was very confusing with many unexpected, frustrating twists along the way. This book could have saved me a lot of money and headaches!
The first chapter clears up what exactly niche marketing is, the importance of using key words and following your passion. Chapter 2 goes into detail on how to use Word Tracker (an important tool for finding out which key words are used most). This chapter has pictures to help those of us who are techno-challenged.
This section is loaded with details and examples.
Chapter 3 teaches how to "target the long tail," using longer chains of key words. It also teaches how to check out the competitor web sites in the same niche. Chapter 4 instructs on how to find affiliate programs so that you can make money by promoting items from other web sites, and teaches "netiquette," or proper e-mail behavior towards those you work with. The 5th chapter teaches how to decide upon info products and affiliate products. You are also given a list of some reputable companies you can make your own affiliate plan with, so others will advertise your products and get a percentage of what they sell to their list members.
Chapter 6 gives an in depth process of how to write your own info-product, such as an e-book. In the next chapter you learn basic web design and the author walks you through basic steps such as registering a domain name. Chapter 8 guides you to writing like a pro for online copy, using catchy headlines and subheadings. This is very detailed and includes 17 must-have items in your sales copy.
Chapter 9 is about your online marketing plan, and includes items such as your mission, promotion techniques, and making your website stand out. Chapter 10 tells you how to get the word out about your site. It tells how to make link exchanges work for you, how to contact owners of other sites, and more. Finally, the last chapter gives us many more tips such as writing articles and where to submit them, how to use blogs and RSS feeds, and more.
This book is a very easy read for a book on technology! It is clear, straightforward, is sprinkled with photos throughout, and makes a handy reference book to keep on hand even after you read it.

If you have not had any (or very little) exposure to digital marketing, by all means buy the book and read it. However, for anyone who has had some experience with digital marketing the last 5 years, this book offers very little new thinking (unless you are really bad at your job).
While the book is full of examples, if flows poorly. The author's points seem to get lost in a somewhat poor structure, and too many points thrown at the user without a proper flow to it. The author should definitely look into pyramid consulting techniques in order to present better. And given the author's savvy in online marketing, it does make me wonder whether the other reviews are legitimate.
But again, if you are a CEO, or non-marketing exec, or an "old school" marketer, this books seems like a useful intro to you. But you should be out reading Techcrunch, Marketing 2.0, Mobilemarketer, Mashable etc etc on a daily basis, and you would not only learn just as quick, you'd stay more current.

Professional Web Video: Plan, Produce, Distribute, Promote, and Monetize Quality Video

As an amateur video editor with several music videos under my belt, I was hoping that this book could "ground" be in some solid principals. For the most part, this book delivered.
I already knew a lot of the information delivered in this book... and most of what's in here is covered in other books. However, "Web Video" strayed away from techno-babble for the most part; and when it was used, it was justified.
But, to the major point of the book, Professional Web Video: this book is no different from any other book covering the top of digital video production. I suppose that could be taken as a good thing, though, because this book does tell you some key pitfalls to avoid and some essential techniques that you must learn.
Wanna take your YouTube videos to the next level? This is your book. (Except Nataly from Pomplamoose... she doesn't need this book.)
