Mastering Niche Marketing: A Definitive Guide to Profiting From Ideas in a Competitive Market Review

It's the BIBLE for Online Marketers!
This is available in both eBook and Hard Copy versions - I read the (6-Phase / 12-Chapter / 245-page) eBook.
ECONOMIC CRISIS - with our (global) economy in grave condition as I write this - and with JOB losses soaring - more and more people are searching for alternative ways to generate more reliable income sources. Add to this, the power of the INTERNET, and a potential solution emerges.
HOME BUSINESS - As a Financial Advisor, Business Consultant and Home Biz Coach - I see employees, professionals and small business owners everywhere liking the idea of running an Online business from home - IF they can get the 'right' education plus the necessary marketing skills.
And thus, the world of Internet Marketing tied to running a profitable Online Home Biz -- enter this new book - - -
MASTERING NICHE MARKETING - this gives enormous value to the reader - both beginner and experienced. It's release is also perfect timing, given the economy. This book truly under-promises and over-delivers. It takes you step-by-step through the whole process of developing a marketing niche. It's the most detailed, comprehensive and exceptional guide to creating and marketing a product Online that I've ever seen or read - bar none. The author removes all the guesswork.
In my opinion, this book gives the reader (the potential Online business entrepreneur) a wonderful "foundation" for pursuing a successful Online business from home. There are far too many "failures" in this industry - because of not being able to 'find' the right niche - or because of the lack of (or poor) training -- this book can change all that as I see it.
ERIC VAN DER HOPE - its author, has high credentials behind him. Perhaps more importantly, he gives a list of his mentors at the beginning, including Ted Nichols, Anthony Robbins, Joe Sugarman, Mark Joyner, (the late) Corey Rudi, Shawn Casey, Frank Kern, Mike Litman + many, many other top marketers - a formidable mastermind group.
Some observations...
NICHE MARKET - Eric defines this as "a small but potentially profitable market segment for which it is possible to design and provide a form of custom-made product or specialized service." It involves 'targeting a group' using information about their specific preferences, which might be a group interested in - exotic vacations - real estate - tennis - gardening, etc.
NO BULL - he 'tells it like it is' in terms of becoming successful with running any Online business -- that there IS a huge market out there where good profits CAN be made -- but, that you'll need MONEY to do it -- that you'll need to take ACTION -- that there's intense COMPETITION -- that you'll need to intelligently 'identify' your market, etc. This approach impressed me.
SPECIFICS - he goes into extraordinary detail with - "Finding the Niche" -- Creating the Product" -- "Developing the Offer" -- "9 Effective Business Models" -- "Top 10 Niche Sourcing Methods" -- Case Studies -- Explicit Pictures, Screenshots, Graphs, Diagrams, Charts, etc. Amazing.
VIRTUAL STOREFRONT - you'll learn of the requirements for your Online biz (choosing Domain names, FTP accounts, Autoresponders, Merchant accounts, Hosting, Video, Audio, etc + Upselling [back-end products], Advertising, Keywords, Social Media Marketing, Testing, Traffic generation - on and on. These are only tip of the iceberg. :-)
BLOGGING - this is the 'only' part (Section 2.9) where I have a tiny disagreement with the author :-) Since developing a BLOG (for profit) can be of tremendous value in these times (as a business by itself) - and whereas he suggests using FREE Blogging platforms (like WordPress.com and/or Blogger.com) - I (personally) strongly recommend using a platform where "you" have the full control. The Free versions give you only limited scope, and they can even be "shut down" on you. The ones where 'you' provide the hosting are far superior in my opinion. I'm referring to WordPress.ORG (not the ".com" Free version). WordPress.ORG - although a little more complex - when it's tied to a good hosting service (like Hostgator.com, or those listed on Eric's page 91) - is considered the top Blog platform by most experts I believe.
ACTION STEPS - what I really liked was the way Eric ended each Phase with a set of specific Action Steps - designed to get you "in production" ASAP.
RESOURCES - he provides SO many links to great tools / systems / websites. This only expands an already rich book on the HOW TO of Internet Marketing. It removes the confusion, the overwhelm and the technical obstacles that hinder so many people that are eager to move forward in this challenging but worthwhile and potentially lucrative industry.
All in all, a magnificant contribution to the world of Internet Marketing.
My thanks to the author for this timely masterpiece - it's a classic.
Without question, I give this a full "5-STAR" rating.
Sincerely,
Peter Arnold, CLU, CFC / Founder

Bruce Mancinelli's new book 50 Ways to Love Your Startup is a great read with a tremendous amount of useful insight for anyone who is thinking of starting a company or who is already in the thick of it. His years of experience, warm wit and practical advice make this an easy read. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants down-to-earth, practical advice from a proven manager and great motivator.50 Ways to Love Your Startup

About the Author - Bruce Mancinelli has had a hand in seven startups; five that achieved various equity events, one that is still to be realized and one that went bust. That's like five good meals, one still cooking and a flat soufflé. Putting together a startup and managing its operations are much like preparing a gourmet meal. Even with a recipe and carefully following the instructions not every meal comes out looking like the picture in the cookbook. Great gourmet meals come from great chefs. Creating that successful startup company requires a plan (recipe) and a chef (entrepreneur) and a little help in the kitchen.Starting in high technology as a programmer, systems analyst, then sales and marketing and ultimately to assume CEO positions with software and Internet services companies, Bruce has experienced many lessons on what it takes to make a startup successful. While there are no silver bullets in the world of startups there are tried and proven techniques and guidelines that have come from lessons learned firsthand and from colleagues and business mentors along the way and Bruce shares them in this book. As Executive Director of INC.spire, a business incubator program and part of the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce, Bruce has helped numerous startups achieve success. In fact INC.spire stands as one of the most successful incubator programs in the country having enjoyed a 96% graduation success with its clients. If to have 'been there and done that," make a difference, Bruce brings that knowledge to his 50 Ways to Love a Startup. Bruce delivers 50 important ways to embrace your big idea and make it a success. Bruce challenges the reader to seize that business idea you have always had and become the lover you have always wanted to be.Unlike a new automobile, a new startup does not come with a user' guide; how to make it work, overcome problems and issues and everything you have to do to make your startup, 'hum and purr" like a well tuned automobile. That comes from everyday experiences and the help you can get along the way from others along who have gone before you. Fifty Ways to Love Your Startup is designed to get you started and to be some of that help that will be needed along the way.About the book - What began as a news article for a local paper on the reasons why today's business climate is better for startups than it has ever been before, grew into a chapter and then two and then more until 50 chapters had been written on the various things to consider and to do to ensure business success for a startup company. When writing the book and naming each chapter, Bruce realized that a book on how to succeed in building and running a startup had no place for a Chapter 7 or a Chapter 11, whatever those chapters might describe. So 'chapters" became 'ways" and fifty of them became this book. With a bit of humor and serious topics the reader is led through step by step considerations about creating and running a start-up. Whether read chapter to chapter or way to way or as needed during the various stages of an emerging business, the book is organized in a way that provides a comprehensive reference guide and how to book on the challenges of startups. Whether there is only a single nugget that is drawn from the pages of this book or the gold that comes from every chapter and way, 50 Ways to Love Your Startup is a must read for anyone interested in the world of startups. You will read it once, and then read it again, and reference it often as you manage your startup. You will learn all the love lessons that will make you a passionate lover of your startup and a gourmet cook.Bon Appetite

I started thumbing through this at a friends house. I was just using it as a time killer as I have no aspirations of becoming a personal trainer, but after a few pages I really got taken in by the writing. The author writes in a very easy to read, conversational style. The author's personal experiences, shown in sidebars, gave me the feeling like I was talking to a friend who just happened to know a ton about personal training.
Not to say that the book isn't in depth, as it does a great job of breaking down everything you could possibly have to think about when starting a business. After reading this starting any business seems possible, not just a personal training one. It's very concise without losing the reader in the details. In fact the authors writing style kept me engrossed with the in depth details provided.
If you're thinking of starting any home based business, this book will be helpful. Let alone a home based personal training one. Hell, it made me think I could start one, and trust me, I'm nobodies idea of a personal trainer.

The Fast Track Photographer Business Plan: Build a Successful Photography Venture from the Ground Up Review

The Fast Track Photographer Business Plan: Build a Successful Photography Venture from the Ground Up
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Unlike any other, this book is about fitting "YOU" to the market place! Sub Titled Build a Successful Photography Venture from the Ground up by Dane Sanders. I consider this a Revolutionary and much needed book in the Photography Industry with these ever changing current times of internet and social media.
As Dane says in this book there is, "no one size fits all business plan". Emphasis is on defining your business vision and having it tied to a sound business plan of which he details through out the book. Included are step by step exercises and charts to help one get clear with their business goals.
What I really like about this book is that Dane starts the first 3 chapters on vision alone. And how important that is! I needed this book as I sometimes get side tracked from looking at the "Big Picture" as I am constantly dealing with the ever increasing technology that is now available for my photography business. Its practically a full time job in itself! I have many books on how to be a specific photographer but currently have been changing my goals, and needed a book that does not presuppose a direction. This book fills the bill!
Along with Vision Dane introduces new concepts in, Finding your Sweet Spot, Sales and Marketing, Focusing on your Strengths, Systematizing your work, Creating the right team and much much more! All the nuts and bolts of how to figure the numbers and creating an actual business plan that fits you are included.
On the back inside cover of the book is a code that you can punch into his web site to take a Business Stress Test (BST) test for free (which is normally $15.00). I'm looking forward to taking that test to see how my business shapes up!
CONCLUSION:
I highly recommend this book to anyone, photographer or otherwise, that is interested in starting, or restarting, a service based business!
Thanks Dane!

Enterprise Social Technology: Helping Organizations Harness the Power of Social Media, Social Networking, Social Relevance
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
In Enterprise Social Technology Scott Klososky shows how to build a holistic plan for incorporating social technology into corporate communications. Klososky encourages us to consider social technology not as an assortment of software applications but a collection of new capabilities involving social relevance (encompassing the online reputation of an individual or organization); social media (the use of Internet and digital media for sharing ideas, or entertainment); and social networking (reaching people through a variety of communication methods and online communities). Each of the book's chapters describes one of 12 steps for implementing social technology into an organization. He discusses in detail how to establish social tech development teams; how to design an internal governance policy that focuses attention on high-priority issues; how to establish a customer engagement policy; and how to implement a measurement system.
One of the book's strengths is the many examples of social tech use. Klososky summarizes success stories from British Airways, BBGeeks.com, Dell, and JetBlue, among others. Klososky also emphasizes the power of crowdsourcing to harnesses the talents of potential collaborators and provides examples from Starbuck's, Procter & Gamble, and FashionStake.com.
He walks us through the process of developing a social tech pilot project. And although it's difficult to measure the return on investment for social technology, Klososky shows how it can be done.

Startup: The Complete Handbook for Launching a Company for Less
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is truly a great book for any kind of entrepreneur - tech startup or coffee shop, just starting or already in business.
The book makes a big promise with, "The Complete Handbook for Launching a Company for Less," and "$100,000 in savings," but if you stick with the program, it works!
Obviously, it's impossible to create a comprehensive book of business best practices because every business has its own variables, but chapter by chapter, this book tackles everything you need to know - in order - for starting a business and growing it successfully.
She breaks down even the most complicated topics - like financing a business with loans or with investors - in plain English and gives step-by-step advice to maximize your upside and minimize the risk of starting a business. This book definitely explores "How to Finance a Startup" in a lot more detail than any other book I've come across. She has 14 sources beyond the normal VCs, angel investors, and SBA loans - and shows how to structure sweat equity with vendors and partners, etc.
I wish everything in life came with this kind of manual. This is the kind of reality-based textbook that university entrepreneurship programs should be using.
Every chapter begins with strategy, then breaks down tactics, then specific recommendations for templates, tools, software, and websites. You can tell that the author has actually used the tools because she even makes recommendations on how to get the most out of them - and how to get a deal.
Every chapter contains do-it-yourself guides - and that's where a lot of the savings comes in. The Branding, Marketing, PR, and Advertising chapters are so much fun! Brainstorming a brand and names for your business, templates for creating your own press releases - all very helpful.
Even for small business owners who have been in business for years, this book is a great quick reference guide for growing a business - tackling sales and revenue growth.
A great read!

This book is 100% useless. There is zero insight. All this is is various information gathered from the google pages and putting it in the worst format possible. Every page is watermarked with an annoying "Top Secret" in large red letters, the table of contects has no associated page numbers, etc. I will only feel a little guilty of this review if I find that the author is a fourth grader who did this book as a class project.

This book has a few good hints in it, but they are completely buried under the poor writing and terrible grammar in this book. I realize that many books these days are self published with no editor, but don't people even use the spell check and grammar features in their word processor? It's so distracting. Heck, even the back cover reads like a 5 year old wrote it.
And, even if you can ignore the poor writing, the red 'Top Secret' watermark on EVERY page, makes reading this sad book annoying to say the least. And, the table of contents doesn't even show page numbers. No joke!
This book is so overpriced for what you get. Don't bother.

Do NOT buy this book..what a rip off. ($25 for 1/4" worth of NOTHING!) Mostly what you will get is basic common sense in running any business..that they took and TRIED to apply to the cupcake business. I am a pastry chef with experience in the field and I can tell you the numbers DO NOT and WILL NOT add up. I actually went back to see when it was published.. the costs were so below reality. What a pathetic book.. this publisher obviously just takes a basic business concept and TRIES to make it apply to a business they know NOTHING about to sell books. I seriously could have written a better one myself with more pertinent information for success. Buy a good business plan software and you'll get more out of it. Business Plan Pro has a great set up they walk you through. I was looking for more detail (marketing, bookkeeping, etc..) in this book... only to find it just SKIMS the surface in any area. Equiptment costs are a joke.. so UNREALISTIC! No contact info for suppliers, etc.. useless! If your curious..skim it through in a bookstore.. and see for yourself. Don't waste your money. Might be good for a kindergartener wanting to sell cupcakes instead of lemonade from their front yard.

Passion, Plan, Profit: 12 Simple Steps to Turn Your Passion into a Solid Business Review

Passion, Plan, Profit: 12 Simple Steps to Turn Your Passion into a Solid Business
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Having your own business is said to be a part of the "American Dream". Even in these tough economic times, many people are still working toward having their own business. Actually, I've read that a financial recession can be the perfect time to lose a fortune -- but also the perfect time to make a fortune. So, is this the time for you to get serious about starting your own business?
I wanted my own business for years and started it about 10 years ago. But for years before and after that, I ran businesses for other people and learned something new on each and every job I had. Finally about 4 years ago I had the opportunity to focus on my business fulltime and I haven't looked back. This background and experience has been invaluable to me and I know there are many people out there who would like to have their own business.
The thing about my business is that I love what I do -- the creative outlet, the ability to help others grow their business and seeing the results we get - all make this something I love to do. Having a business of my own that I love is not something I take for granted and there are many other people who would like to have the same opportunity. That is what Passion, Plan and Profit by Christy Strauch is about.
In the beginning of this book you will find sections that include: Read This Before You Begin, Caution, How to Use This Book, etc. I like to include these sort of sections to lay the groundwork in my non fiction books - be sure you read all of these sections. Then we move on to the heart of the book.
Section One - Why Are You In Business (Purpose, Vision, Mission and Value)
Section Two - How Are You In Business (Target Market, Strategies, Unique Selling Proposition, Strengths Weaknesses Opportunities and Threats)
Section Three - (Income, Expenses, Key Measurements)
Section Four - (Clarity)
Strauch covers so many great topics that all business owners or people who want to be business owners need to understand. But she doesn't stop there. In the back of the book you will find a business plan template, a checklist to track your progress, resources, the Footwork Calculator and Business Plan Review Processes - including monthly and quarterly reviews.
There are so many topics that business owners need to manage. All the sections of this book are valuable, but I was really impressed with the "Numbers" section. Not only does she explain the incomes and expenses, but she also included directions to help you estimate these numbers properly. Getting these estimates is critical to the success of any business and need to be calculated to complete a thorough business plan and to secure sufficient financing.
Another thing that I really like is that Strauch included a number of worksheets in the book. I love non fiction books that provide ways for the reader to interact and utilize the information. This book is highly recommended for people who want to start a business and especially people who want to start a business that incorporates something they love.

3 Weeks to Startup Review

3 Weeks to Startup
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Start a business in 3 weeks? What about all the details, the research, the website, the legalities, the planning?
As a consultant who works with business owners on startup and finance issues, I already knew it was possible to quickly launch a business. I've done it several times myself and have helped consulting clients do the same. What I didn't have was a comprehensive, step-by-step manual that I could hand to new clients to get them up to speed on, well, SPEED.
I often use the following Anita Brookner quote regarding the usual tortoise approach to starting a business to give clients an idea of what I'm talking about:
In real life, it is the hare who wins. Every time. Look around you.
And in any case it is my contention that Aesop was writing for the
tortoise market. Hares have no time to read. They are too busy
winning the game.
If you are looking to start a business that will require financing from banks or venture capitalists, three weeks won't be enough time. Most businesses don't start out that way, though. They start as tiny enterprises with no employees and they grow from there.
3 Weeks to Startup is a comprehensive resource covering all the nuts and bolts details you need to attend to in getting your business off the ground. It takes you through a three week schedule of very specific activities you'll need to think about and do. From defining what you want in the business to who your customer is to legal issues to marketing and sales, this is a terrific guide for new and experienced business owners.
Since my consulting practice focuses on cash flow, I was especially pleased to see an easy to follow explanation of the financial side of business and a very practical approach to thinking about and managing cash flow.
The authors' writing style is very readable. The book contains no theory, it's all application and practical, realistic tasks to get your product or service to market quickly without sacrificing any of the important details. The authors also include a large number of additional resources.
This book is particularly a must-read for new business owners who have the feeling that they "don't know what they don't know." It's also valuable for experienced business owners who want to quickly launch a new venture.

How to Write a Business Plan Review

I was disappointed with this book because I had thought it would be broader and relate to all kinds of businesses. But this book is very specific to the entrepreneur starting up his or her own business, only. Its examples are mostly of home-based businesses or small sole proprietorships. The writing is sometimes condescending and assumes you know nothing whatsoever about finances and investments (which may be good for some readers). It includes several chapters of additional information for start-up companies which take up a significant portion of the book and have little or nothing at all to do with writing a business plan. I feel like this book is mistitled and would be better named, "Mike's Guide to Founding and Funding your Own Business."

I really liked this book a lot. I think there has been a real need for something like this publication for some time now. When I have SCORE clients ask me about what is involved in creating a great business plan for their idea, then this book will be one of the ones I will recommend they read to help. I highly recommend it. It is well organized and well written. And it includes quite a number of computer screen captures to make it easy to follow.
While I couldn't use it to specifically help me use the online research databases my public library subscribes to, I certainly could use it to get a feel for using online research databases and the kind of information to look for at my public library. Keep in mind that Web sites, library subscriptions, and URLs are all subject to change over time. But the process of doing business research remains constant. And you will see and learn about the process by reading this book.
This book is comprised of the following four sections:
1. Research essentials
2. The research process
3. Major resources
4. Straight to the numbers
My favorite was Part II (The research process), but Part III had a goldmine of resources cited. My hunch is that the URLs in the third part will get dated eventually. But as of right now they are all still hot. And I thought chapters 15 (Researching an industry), 16 (Researching a company), and 17 (Researching a target market) were wonderful. The meat of doing research for a business plan has to do with learning about the industry, market, and the main competitors in that business' market. 5 stars!
