Professional Web Video: Plan, Produce, Distribute, Promote, and Monetize Quality Video
Average Reviews:

As an amateur video editor with several music videos under my belt, I was hoping that this book could "ground" be in some solid principals. For the most part, this book delivered.
I already knew a lot of the information delivered in this book... and most of what's in here is covered in other books. However, "Web Video" strayed away from techno-babble for the most part; and when it was used, it was justified.
But, to the major point of the book, Professional Web Video: this book is no different from any other book covering the top of digital video production. I suppose that could be taken as a good thing, though, because this book does tell you some key pitfalls to avoid and some essential techniques that you must learn.
Wanna take your YouTube videos to the next level? This is your book. (Except Nataly from Pomplamoose... she doesn't need this book.)

30-Minute Social Media Marketing: Step-by-step Techniques to Spread the Word About Your Business

I have "Blogging All-in-One for Dummies" by Susan Gunelius and loved it, so when this book came out about social media marketing I wanted to get it right away. I'm amazed by all of the information in this book. It includes links to tools, sample plans, and examples from small business owners rather than just big name brands that other books include. The best part for me is that this focuses on strategy. I'm not a marketing professional, so understanding WHY I might want to do one thing or another to promote my business through social media really makes this book worth every cent. Of course, it was less than $12, so I think I got way more than my money's worth. If you're trying to promote your business or your blog or yourself (or anything else frankly) online then you really need to read this book.

Get Content Get Customers: Turn Prospects into Buyers with Content Marketing

I have been hearing that content is king for years, but now I understand how that applies in a world where buyers hate all the advertising that bombards them. That explains why our traditional marketing efforts don't work anymore and why we need a new content marketig approach.
My biggest aha from the book is that moving to an effective content marketing strategy means changing the way you think--but may be even less expensive than old-fashioned advertising and marketing.
Get Content. Get Customers. shows how and why changes in old-line media, buyer behavior, and technology have empowered--and required--smart marketers to "think like publishers" as the authors put it. That means understanding what problems and solutions are absolutely critical to your customers and providing rich content that provides meaningful answer to those challenges.
I loved the case studies which detail how content marketing has paid off on the bottom-line from a one person kitchen designer to Best Buy, a multi-billion dollar seller of kitchen appliances and high-end electronics. Every case study offers ideas that even small companies can put into practice.
Finally, the book provides a step by step illustration of how a hypothetical company can roll out a content marketing strategy that will really pay off.

Content Rules: How to Create Killer Blogs, Podcasts, Videos, Ebooks, Webinars (and More) That Engage Customers and Ignite Your Business (New Rules Social Media Series) Review

Content Rules: How to Create Killer Blogs, Podcasts, Videos, Ebooks, Webinars (and More) That Engage Customers and Ignite Your Business (New Rules Social Media Series)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I should preface this review by saying I have been podcasting and creating content for the web for over five years now, and that I regularly help clients do the same. This said, I was expecting Content Rules to be a good book on the subject, but perhaps one of those that did not speak to me, because of my experience. I was wrong- Content Rules speaks to everyone- even seasoned content creators, by providing the metrics we may know around content creation, but haven't yet articulated, and helps make the case for content for everyone from people getting their feet wet on the Web for the first time, to those who are looking to raise their game and up their level of engagement with others online.
Content Rules is compelling and honest from the introduction on. It is a book I can hand my clients, friends, teachers- almost anyone who wonders why people need to or bother creating content for the web- to help not only explain why compelling content is important, but how to create it. It helps people break down the barriers that often get in the way of creating compelling content, and instead gives them some parameters on how to make sure your authentic and compelling voice shine through. In addition, the examples and case studies in the book bring the rules to life, in a way that will help folks understand how to find their human voice, and why that is so important to success in contrast to another paragraph of over-polished, sanitized, personality-free "safe" messaging.
I'm really excited by Content Rules as a book I can enthusiastically pass on to friends, colleagues, clients and more. If it's between a more generic book on social media or online marketing and this one, you need Content Rules because it will help you understand the fundamental approach you need to take regardless of the tool, platform, network or marketing plan- you need to concentrate on your Content first.

I gave this book a 5-star rating, yet wished I could have awarded 10-star ranking. Lorrie Thomas--not a born techie, but an entrepreneur who developed her skills incrementally (as most of us have to do)--asserts at the outset that the "true meaning of marketing is maximizing relationships." Using the tools and strategies she recommends, you will be able to enrich your current professional relationships and cultivate new ones far more rapidly.
Once you have completed reading this book, you will go back to it constantly as a valuable resource for strengthening your online presence.
Have you started small with your Web marketing? Then follow Lorrie Thomas' advice: "Start small, then snowball."
You will be amazed at the depth of the author's research, and so pleased that she illustrates her information in clear and often witty language.
My prediction: You will decide that purchasing, reading, and applying this book was one of your wisest professional steps.

This book was a little better than OK, but I can't say that I particularly liked it. I'd love to rate it a 3.5 star, but I have to give it either a 4 or a 3. Well, I'll throw it a bone - voila! It gets a 4. The book has five sections and 19 chapters as follows:
I. What's new online? (1&2)
II. A new mindset (3-6)
III. Developing your 7-step action plan (7-15)
IV. Completed plan and beyond (16-19)
V. Appendix (A&B)
1. What's important to today's Web marketer?
2. Changing roles
3. Creativity and innovation
4. Think like a direct response copywriter
5. You're a publisher now!
6. Your new social media Web site
7. The 7-step action plan
8. Step 1: Niche
9. Step 2: Brand
10. Step 3: Story
11. Step 4: Search
12. Step 5: Content
13. Step 6: Tactics - Social Media
14. Step 6: Tactics - Tried and true
15. Step 7: Results
16. Putting it all together
17. Let the message work for you
18. Collaboration with colleagues and customers
19. Tracking your success
A. Bibliography
B. Worksheets
I loved Chapter 5 on being an infopreneur. But I would have liked more coverage on emailing, ebooks, webinars, and teleseminars.
The author has her own online marketing and design company called "Digital Media Works, Inc" which you can easily find by doing a Google search for that name. I was about as impressed with her company Web site as I was impressed with her book. Clearly this book is a marketing piece for her company.
It surprised me that a book on Internet Marketing only devoted one chapter (Chapter 6) to the ins and outs of designing a Web site. And it surprised me that a book on Internet Marketing that included a bibliography did not include more books (and current ones at that) on Internet Marketing. Chapter 14 covers email sigs, article marketing, online press releases, and ezines.
If you are interested in Social Media Marketing, then this book is one you may want to take a look at. It does a reasonble job discussing the subject. I was surprised there was not a chapter on blogging just after Chapter 6. I would have included a chapter on blogging there. Then at Chapter 13 I would have gone into marketing tactics used when blogging. I was surprised there was not a chapter on social networks (Linked In, MySpace, Facebook, etc.) just after Chapter 6. I would have included a chapter there on the social networking sites, and then at Chapter 13 I would have gone into the marketing tactics used when doing social networking. None of this was done. 3.5 stars!
PS. Other books I have read on this subject which have received favorable reviews from me on Amazon are: "The New Influencers" (ISBN: 1884956653), "Marketing to the Social Web" (ISBN: 0470124172), "The Age of Engage" (ISBN: 0979802806), and "Marketing in the New Media" (ISBN: 1551807319). None of these books were cited in the bibliography included in the instant book being reviewed.

I have read many of the latest social media marketing books out there and have found that they present the topic at too high a level. They seem to try and convince you that social media is the next big thing in marketing. For those of us that have been out there and seeing firsthand that social media is taking over, we need a book with a little more meat. A book that starts to get down into the nuts and bolts of how to use social media marketing in your organization and give you some firepower to convince upper management. Maximizing Lead Generation: The Complete Guide for B2B Marketers (Que Biz-Tech) Review

Maximizing Lead Generation: The Complete Guide for B2B Marketers (Que Biz-Tech)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
In the last 10 years, the Internet and Social Media have altered the marketing landscape. However, some things remain the same, including the reality that lead generation is how a company motivates prospective customers to make a purchase.
In her engaging, almost conversational style, Ruth Stevens provides a clear definition for what is and isn't a lead. She explains the science behind lead generation and outlines clear steps that any marketer can follow.
Rather than inundate the reader with endless case studies, those chosen are targeted to showcase how a company used a specific concept to achieve success. The samples of what made a specific campaign work are both interesting and informative.
Once she demonstrates the necessity to plan a lead-generation campaign, Stevens provides information on the tools a marketer needs in his or her arsenal of tools in order to achieve success.
In our ADD-world, Stevens promotes use of lead-generation basics such as databases and paying attention to best practices to develop the most effective plan. She provides ample charts and tables the reader can replicate to measure the cost, effectiveness and rationalization for each metric or media chosen. One of my favorite points at this junction is that Stevens does not advocate any one metric or media choice as the Holy Grail; instead, she clearly delineates the uses and best use for a plethora of choices.
Embracing the changing vista in marketing, Stevens explains how to use content as a valuable source of advice to entice potential customers to raise their hand. She demystifies the landing page and promotes the use of several to extend your reach and attract a broader range of leads.
She then explains how to measure the potential of the lead and provides clear steps on nurturing the lead throughout the buying process. She goes so far as to offer three easy steps for lead qualification success.
For a thin book (just under 200 pages), the subject of lead generation is dissected and diced so that both the neophyte and expert will find something new and exciting. By embracing how the Internet has changed marketing, Stevens demonstrates how certain social networking tools can be used to help develop prospective leads. What I specifically enjoyed at this junction was the clear explanation for what social media tools could and can't offer you lead generation efforts.
