This book is a complete let down and at best a brochure/advertisement for you to visit their SEO marketing website and employ their services. And the fact there were so many positive reviews makes me cynically think that the authors of this book knew how to game Amazon's website and put up bogus positive reviews. It should be titled "The Hidden Truth: How I Fooled Kindle Users to Pay Double for Info that Could've Gotten Free".
There is not one thing in this book that's a 'Hidden Truth'. Everything in this book I have read for free years ago on 'net. I was really hoping there would be just a few nuggets of advice that would help us improve our rankings. But nada. I could give more meaningful advice on SEO than this author did.
The book is ridiculously short (equivalent of probably 30-40 pages), making you feel even more ripped off that you paid $17 - more than you'd pay for a real and quality book for $9.99 on Amazon.com.
Save your money and do a search on Google for "how to optimize my web page for search engines" or something similar, and get much than what's contained in this book for free and in a few minutes.
NOTE: of all the Reviews you'll see here, I am the ONLY one that's a verified buyer (sucker).

Search Engine Advertising: Buying Your Way to the Top to Increase Sales (2nd Edition) Review

Search Engine Advertising: Buying Your Way to the Top to Increase Sales (2nd Edition)

Catherine Seda's excellent book "Search Engine Advertising" is the perfect complement to Shari Thurow's "Search Engine Visibility" from which includes an excerpt toward the end. Where Thurow's book, the best one in terms of accomplishing high rankins in 'organic' (read unpaid) search results, Seda's book brings along the whole other side of the equation: that of paid options to accomplish high rankings. In doing so, one of her key points is that Search Engine Advertising doesn't end when the customer arrives at your site (visits), but it really is about conversions (getting the customer to make a purchase, subscribe or whatever your web site's purpose is when s/he arrives to it).
The book is very well structured around six parts:
i) Planning: the key (yet sometimes overlooked) part of the process, to ensure you know who you are targetting and how, before jumping into the paid options.
ii) Paid Placement Programs: she presents the differences (pros and cons) of the most important fixed placement and pay-for-placement programs available.
iii) Paid Inclusion Programs: directories are presented here in all their splendor, along with what you can do to enhance your possibilities before submitting your site, and how to manage a large number of simultaneous submissions. Web site optimization is touched upon briefly at this point, but in no way substituting Thurow's book on the topic: you simply have to have both, if you're serious about Online Marketing at all.
iv) Specialized Search Engines: comparison shopping engines, vertical market search engines and international search engines are discussed in some detail, to get you started with them.
v) Tracking ROI: normally just as overlooked as the planning stage, the tracking of the results of paid advertising campaigns are discussed in extensive detail to ensure that you are able to steer the boat in the right direction if your ROI data shows that you're putting money on the wrong key terms, your copy is not doing what it should to engage customers, or your landing pages are not taking customers where you want them to go once they get to your site.
vi) Protecting profits: topics such as click fraud, trademark infringement and affilate networks are discussed, as things to keep an eye on.
All in all, this is not a book you'd want to sit down and read in one afternoon (nor would you be able to). This is a hands-on book to work through and use as a reference as you're getting your feet wet with this whole other animal that is paid advertising on the Web. It has done a ton for me in the two months I've been applying the concepts contained in it, since it summarizes very well all the options available to you, their pros/cons and how to best take advantage of them, considering your size and budget. I highly recommend it without reserves for eMarketers that have not had too much exposure to paid options, as well as those who have some experience in the area, since it provides a wealth of tips and insights that most people in the field can benefit from.
Disclosure: I received a copy for review from the publisher.

Internet Marketing 101: Strategies from a Young Web Marketing Guru Review

Internet Marketing 101: Strategies from a Young Web Marketing Guru

Search Marketing and Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is as important as it is complex, and getting into this necessary field requires a good start. There are so many bad websites and outdated material out there in the marketplace due to the nature of the ever-changing Search Engine world. However, Neil Mirchandani's book is still current and easily one of the finest primers I've seen. It is full of key information and speaks simply (in other words, it's never too technical).
If you're thinking about getting into SEO, trying to figure out your first steps, or just want to gain a better understanding, this book would be my first recommendation.

Hibernate Search in Action Review

Hibernate Search in Action
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just finished reading Hibernate Search in Action, and I loved it. I should point out that I was the porter of Hibernate Search to NHibernate Search, so I had some previous expertise in the topic. In addition to that, I approached this book at an angle completely orthogonal to the expected audience. Unlike most "in Action" books, I did not intend to make immediate use of the code and approaches suggested in the book. Instead, I looked to the book as a way to deepen my understanding of the tool and how it works.
I am impressed, massively so, that it did so well in this regard for someone who has gone through the entire source code of the project several times.
I'll not bore you with the actual details, you can get the actual content summary of off the site. From my perspective, after reading this book I know that I am going to take a completely different approach for most complex search scenarios, and I think that I have the practical theoretical knowledge to deal with it.
I highly recommend the book if you actually need to deal with Hibernate Search, but I would recommend it to people who are not using it, because it contains some important eye opening concepts if you are not used to full text search tools capabilities. As a nice bonus, I was able to take the information in the book and use it to discuss a problem the customer was having, ending up with something that I consider far superior of the solution that they currently employ.

Enterprise and web applications require full-featured, "Google-quality" search capabilities, but such features are notoriously difficult to implement and maintain. Hibernate Search builds on the Lucene feature set and offers an easyto- implement interface that integrates seamlessly with Hibernate-the leading data persistence solution for Java applications.

Hibernate Search in Action introduces both the principles of enterprise search and the implementation details a Java developer will need to use Hibernate Search effectively. This book blends the insights of the Hibernate Search lead developer with the practical techniques required to index and manipulate data, assemble and execute search queries, and create smart filters for better search results. Along the way, the reader masters performance-boosting concepts like using Hibernate Search in a clustered environment and integrating with the features already in your applications.

This book assumes you're a competent Java developer with some experience using Hibernate and Lucene.

The 12 Habits Of Highly Effective Websites: A Primer On Search Engine Optimization For Non-Technical Executives Review

The 12 Habits Of Highly Effective Websites: A Primer On Search Engine Optimization For Non-Technical Executives

I own this book along with Scanlan's "Web Traffic Magnet," and I am extremely pleased with the knowledge on search engine optimization (SEO) that they provide. They take the mystery out of SEO and explain best-practice activities for achieving top search engine rankings.
"Web Traffic Magnet" is more technical than "12 Habits," which Scanlan has intended for non-technical executives. As an SEO practitioner, however, I found value in reading both books. They compliment each other very well. And because they are both written with brevity and tight focus, they don't overwhelm with superfluous or excessive information. They get down to the nitty gritty of SEO, which other busy people should greatly appreciate.
