(More customer reviews)The description should also include a quick note that this book is targeted at therapists in the UK. A bit too basic, and the language a tad trite, this book might be a good coaching starter for brand new therapists in the UK. The book is written from a Life Coach perspective, rather than a therapists perspective, which the author clearly acknowledges as her background. "...life coach, businesswoman, chartered accountant, and lecturer." As the back cover recognizes, "Having run her own therapy company and a number of other small businesses...", her background did not provide the confidence that might be expected, from an educated perspective about going into practice as a therapist. It must be much different in the UK, than it is in the US. As a therapist, I would expect that a book written to assist those in setting up a `therapy business' (step-by-step) would, at a minimum, be written by an educated therapist in practice.
Marketing the book as having received 5 stars is great, if there were more than one review to read. Having just launched, I'm optimistic that beginning UK therapists, fresh out of school, will find this an adequate read. There is a good set of questions listed in the book, which will allow new therapists to consider whether going into private practice is meant for them, or not! When reading about licensing, legal structure, etc., it's best to know the licenses, laws, and business structures in the country you reside - or choose to do business. As I am from the US, the information did not assist me, and the language used was not relevant. For example; `Sole Trader' (UK) vs. `Sole Proprietor' (US). I wish the author the very best of luck with the book. It's certainly a coaching point for new therapists, in the UK, so I give it 3 optimistic stars.
