Attorney Jim Schuster has written a great book on how to market a law practice on a shoestring budget. But I fear that if I leave it at that, those attorneys with more than a shoestring budget may not seriously consider this book and that would be a grave mistake.
Mr. Schuster is a legal scholar. That much is apparent from the opening pages of this work. But he has done something very rare. He has bridged the gap between legal scholarship and the marketing arena. Few attorneys who "know the law" also know how to market their practices. Fewer still know how to market using techniques that are valuable to those with a limited budget.
As a student of the law I was intigued by his turn of the phrase.
Mr. Schuster's book me back to law school, in a sense, and I could almost still hear the pronouncements of my law professors and I wondered at the time where they had gained all that wisdom. Only later did I realize that those professors were brilliant in their respective areas but not one had anything to offer when it came to advice on how to grow a practice. Somehow Jim Schuster has acquired their legal AND marketing knowledge...and he shares it in this gem of a book.
There are tips and techniques which will fit the needs of any practicing attorney here...some you will know (or have heard about) and others will surprise you. The chapters on Communication and Persuasion are particularly helpful as is his homespun, sage advice on how to set and collect fees.
All in all this is a superior read and should be on the reading list and on the "take action" list of any attorney looking to grow his or her practice in this age of too many "purported experts". Jim Schuster is the real deal and his book reflects that.
