(More customer reviews)There are a lot of career books that tell you WHAT you are supposed to do to find a job or take your career to the next level. What I really like about Awaken Your Careerpreneur is that Alexia Vernon helps you figure out WHO you want to be in your career and to customize all of her tips for your specific purpose. Her stories are funny and relevant and what she calls SUCCESSwork, interactive coaching exercises, really help you stay on track. It would have been great to have read this book 20 years ago so I highly recommend it for college students and recent grads. Although those who are switching careers, want to start a business, or simply want to goal set for bigger and better things will also find it really valuable.

The Portable MLIS: Insights from the Experts Review

(More customer reviews)I recently completed my MLIS and used this book as one of many tools to review for my comprehensive exam. I found the text most useful in summarizing and highlighting ethics issues, especially those discussed in the ALA's labyrinthine Intellectual Freedom Manual. Still, if you're looking for depth and substantial context, you're better off using the authors' original works (especially Rubin and Taylor). If you're thinking about going to library school, this is a good overview of what you'll be learning in the core courses. You may find it to be very relevant material, especially if you've never worked in a library before (which, personally, I HIGHLY recommend before you commit to a graduate school program). Overall, I'd recommend checking this book out from the library before committing to buying it at such a steep cover price.

(More customer reviews)I stalled on reading this book being the procastionater I am. Once I did get into it, I really got excited. I did not know how to apply what I have done in a career of 15 years until I finally had to sit down and rethink all I have done. Once I read it, I got to comparing what I had done and how to apply the skills I had to whatever I was applying for. It made me realize how much I could do. I went into a interview (usually nervous)and was calm, and felt confident in it. They didn't ask me questions that I thought they would ask. Because of my studying this book and analyzing myself I gave answers that surprised even me. Needless to say, I felt I gave my best in this interview and felt really good about it. I got the call a day later for the 2nd interview and the day after they called to offer me the job. I am where I want to be and I owe it to
