Mr. Pounds makes the point that among Asian countries the demographic and economic metrics of Vietnam are favorable for substantial reward. There is a breadth of Vietnam specific data. He has traveled in the country, and studied it extensively.
Included in the book are analysis of strategies for investing in Vietnam. Opportunities are comprised of mutual funds, direct investing via US listed firms, and derivative plays, such as firms with significant presence in the country. Mr. Pounds evaluates sectors of the country which are expected to provide desirable returns.
The reader gleans not only a deep knowledge of the country, they take advantage of Ken Pounds extensive, and this is rare, level-headed ability, to make sense of economic trends and the prospects of individual firms. In his extensive investing career, he has immersed himself in the bio-tech and health care industry, serving as an expert witness. Further, he has made extensive studies of the real estate and energy sectors. This experience provides a lens for clear insight
If there one problem with Mr. Pounds investment recommendations, as relates to individual firms, it is that they frequently are taken private or sold. While the investor may have to be content with a short term 50% return, they are left having to find new investments. Worse could happen.
