Real Estate v2.0: A Professional's Guide to Dynamic Websites, Blogs, and Podcasts Review

Real Estate v2.0: A Professional's Guide to Dynamic Websites, Blogs, and Podcasts

Although written primarily for a US audience (and I am Canadian), this book is insightful and timely in its subject matter. Web 2.0 technology is upon us at a time when many real estate professionals still barely understand Web 1.0 technology. Sure, they can hire a "techy" to do it all but the costs are increasing dramatically and the short term pay off is low. Web 2.0 promoting is a long-term payback form of self-promotion--more a social network philosophy.
This is alien to most agents, especially in Canada, which although it enjoys a higher per capita computer saturation than the US, is waves behind in incorporating emerging technologies into business activities on par with traditional practices.
This book opens the eyes of those "tech-savvy" enough to understand where the technology is going and why Real Estate professionals need to stay up to speed. If you think it's complicated now, wait till what this book talks about is taken for granted (within 10 years easily). If you don't understand what's coming, you'll play catch up for the rest of your career. This book introduces the emerging technologies very well, in understandable language for those who at least know what RSS is and why it will not only change the average agent's personal website but make obsolete most franchised system's sites unless they get with the program quickly.
With references to successful and competitive websites now in existence, the book acts as a guide to emerging technologies in practical use...one of the best ways to learn what works and what doesn't work, in my opinion.
If you want to sell real estate into the next decade and beyond, you need to read this book. It gives you an insight into the future way of doing business.

The author is a former lawyer turned realtor who truly teaches you how to solve seemingly impossible difficulties when trying to get parties cooperative in a transaction. He is known for his "work arounds" meaning, how to solve complex problems in a creative and legal way.
He writes well, is earnest and, as a former professor, easy to understand and learn from.
If your negotiating skills need a tune up, he's the guy, for sure!

Dr. Dani has done an excellent job of evaluating the Real Estate field from so many angles, that if you are not willing to learn and adapt, you could become one of the future casualties that she outlines in her book. As an IT professional with real world knowledge of real estate investing, Dr. Dani has THOROUGHLY researched each topic, and has provided examples from the perspective of the realtor, lender, appraiser, and several others. If you are introspective, and looking to increase your performance, or just want to stay on top, this is a GREAT book for you to read. I've gone back to sections of the book so many times, that I may need to buy another copy.

SHIFT: How Top Real Estate Agents Tackle Tough Times (PAPERBACK) (Millionaire Real Estate) Review

SHIFT: How Top Real Estate Agents Tackle Tough Times (PAPERBACK) (Millionaire Real Estate)
Average Reviews:

Any agent, new or experienced, independent or franchised, big broker or little broker, can benefit from this book!
Shift is truly a guidebook for real estate agents/Realtors old or new, IN ANY MARKET even though it's marketed as (see the title) helping agents through the current "buyer's market". Many agents - with experience limited to the booming "seller's market" we experienced in the US between between 2001 and 2007 - were (and some still are) SHOCKED by the shift in the market and what that did to their business, income, lifestyle, etc. Gary Keller explains what happened (and how it's happened before and will happen again) and what the options are for real estate agents. Those that choose to tough it out and stay in real estate, can learn viable strategies to get leads, convert the leads to contracts, and close and get paid in the current market. In fact, the strategies can (and will) be aptly applied in any market.
Tip/hint: Gary recommends taking the book to a local office supply store and having them spiral bound it so it can be used as a field guide of sorts. VERY GOOD IDEA. Thanks for awesome book-delivered coaching/mentoring Gary!!!

Online Marketing Techniques for Real Estate Agents and Brokers: Insider Secrets You Need to Know to Take Your Business to the Next Level Review

Online Marketing Techniques for Real Estate Agents and Brokers: Insider Secrets You Need to Know to Take Your Business to the Next Level
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
"Never judge a book by its cover." This old adage has never been more true than for Karen Vieira's new how-to book, Online Marketing Techniques for Real Estate Agents and Brokers.
The book's cornflower blue cover and fluorescent title font misrepresent the work as something akin to a get-rich-quick scheme or a "Real Estate for Dummies" walkthrough. Admittedly, I was turned off by the look and also by the knowledge that Vieira isn't a broker nor an agent, herself. She graduated in microbiology and lists herself as an entrepreneur - albeit one with a vested interest in flipping properties. The most outstanding qualification I could see to have her pen this book was that her husband is, according to the biographical information, an "Internet marketing guru."
My father is an independent real estate broker, so coming from a background of self-run businesses and real estate, I was understandably skeptical. In reality however, Vieira presents a compelling case. Her statistics about websites, sales, customer needs, wants, and ultimately how establishing a successful web presence will transfer to a more successful business are sound. She uses testimonials from successful agents around the country, and she has obviously done her research. The fact that she is not a broker or agent seems to help, rather than hinder. She is an outsider looking in, clear-headed in her criticism of the current market practices, and she makes fresh suggestions that have worked with her own business ventures and others.
The book is also easy to ingest, with clearly marked chapters and subsections that highlight each new topic. The end of each chapter holds a review of the most important material in case you missed it. Another helpful point is that she doesn't ignore the real estate agent or broker who would like to get their hands dirty and design their web presence from the ground up, instead of hiring outside help. Though she cautions against overloading oneself and offers a myriad of tips for finding web professionals, Vieira also gives all the tools and know-how needed to create and maintain successful real estate blog oneself. She explains how to optimize your html code, online advertising and search engine results, and she does so with succinctness.
I left the book impressed and intrigued. From branding to selling houses with eBay to hiring cheaper website help overseas, Vieira leaves no stone unturned when it comes to defining oneself in an increasingly online world. Though it runs a little long at 274 pages, Online Marketing Techniques for Real Estate Agents and Brokers is a comprehensive, well-written book that will be certain to teach a few tricks to even the savviest salespeople, and with a handy index, it makes a nice reference tool to keep on the shelf, as well.

I was excited to read this book and then I realized as I was reading it that it is basically a summary of several other books. The author put the meat of the other books into this one but I wanted more detailed information instead of a summary.

This book concisely provides valuable advice on all aspects of real estate from investing in homes to commercial properties. True, someone with enough time and energy may be able to piece together aspects of the book by searching and evaluating all of the websites mentioned, but that could be painful and take a very long time (days, weeks??). Why bother? This book does the work for you by filtering the pertinent information and combining that the author's salient commentary.
