I am going to presume (I know that's not very smart, but I'm going to do it anyway) that you're already decided on Quickbooks software. So the reason you're reading this book review is to determine if you want to buy this book to learn what to do with it.
This book is pare of Que's 'On Demand' series of books. It's a visual quick reference guide that uses a task oriented philosophy to show/describe how to do things in Quickbooks. Specifically, say you want to Schedule a Recurring Transaction, that is, a bill that needs to be paid the tenth of every month for the same amount. You can look up: Recurring Transactions or Scheduled Transactions in the index or Scheduling Recurring Transactions in the Table of Contents. All of these lead you to page 189. Page 189 is printed with two columns. The left hand column has a set of instructions on how to do the task. The right hand column has pictures of what the screen should look like as you follow the instructions.
So you read through the whole book quickly, learning at least the basic idea of what you can do. Get Quickbooks installed (page 2), register it (page 5), and work you way through the first couple of chapters. Then skip around to get what you want done, as you decide to implement those features.
It's a pretty handy way to learn a software system.

Outcome-Based Marketing New Rules for Marketing on the Web Review

Outcome-Based Marketing New Rules for Marketing on the Web

John is one of the most savvy marketers I know. His sage advice is field focused and road tested. He's been in the trenches of both technical marketing as well as years of helping small business find the on-ramp to using the Internet to gain visibility for their brand and products.
The approach of this book is comprehensive yet modular -- you don't have to read through the whole book to begin to get value from what you've learned from each section. John breaks it out into easy-to-consume "chunks" that teach you not only the concepts of Internet marketing, but also the principles of why you do these things. Then he takes you through the how of implementing. The book is particularly well arranged with helpful navigational tools to let you know where you are and summary comments at the end of each section to reinforce what you've learned.
Starting with strategic thinking, he outlines the tactical action items necessary to reach the goals that a company has set. He addresses the different roles in an organization, and how each one manages or contributes to the marketing effort.
But the big payoff is how John explains the use of the major social platforms. He discusses the "rules of the road" for each of them -- LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter... even Foursquare -- how each is unique, addressing different user populations, use cases, and target audiences. He separates the fact from the fad. And he keeps you out of trouble by explaining the special "Netiquette" of each.
John's particular expertise is SEO, Search Engine Optimization, and I know of no one who is better at doing it. He's been helping companies for years raise their visibility on the Internet, and getting them the most bang for the buck from their web advertising dollar.
This is a uniquely valuable book for any company to either start their online marketing efforts, or to a help a company that is already "on line" to step up their game to leverage latest social networks and platforms to expand their web presence.

How to Get Bookkeeping Clients Quickly: The Bookkeeping Business Marketing Guidebook

What I like best about this book is how concise it is. The author gets right to the point. It looks easy to follow and gives you a lot of the WHO, WHEN, WHERE and HOW instead of just telling you WHAT to do. The detail she provides is well worth the investment. The only reason I am giving it four stars instead of five is because I just paid $47 dollars for this in the form of an ebook online (My first impression was, "This is a little pricey"). Seriously, just less than an hour ago.
I happen to surf the internet for some of the resources the author list in her book and came across this item here on amazon and realized it is the exact same book for almost half the cost. So if you are wondering if you should make the purchase - go for it! This is a bargain relative to what I just paid for mine.

How to Start a Successful Home-Based Freelance Bookkeeping and Tax Preparation Business Review

How to Start a Successful Home-Based Freelance Bookkeeping and Tax Preparation Business

This books certainly contains some helpful information if you're going to start you own bookkeeping business, but 3 major things make me recommend you think twice before purchasing this book:

1. To say frankly, this books is about starting ANY professional service business, not just bookkeeping. It certainly refers to some accounting topics - i.e. choosing accounting software etc., but essentially it gives you no idea about how to build competitive advantage of your bookkeeping business and doesn't tell you any ins and outs of this particular business type
2. This books is poorly edited - it has two authors and it looks like these authors wrote different part of the books and nobody took time to make sure that the book is cohesive and doesn't say the same ideas twice. Pictures in this book just magnify the impression of a poor editor work - they are absolutely not stylish and resemble the standard picture set of MS Word in 1990s. This is certainly not to say that poor editing will preclude you from understanding what this book is about, but I expected much more from the item priced at $40.
3. Talking about "Tax preparation" part of this book, the whole content of this chapter can be put into one sentence "At some point of time in developing your bookkeeping business, you might find it interesting to expand your services into tax preparation field". Well, this looks too simplistic to me - taxation is one of the most complicated areas of finance and just to say that sometimes you will wake up and decide to get into this field and next morning you will be there is just odd.
To put is short, if this book cost $15 and were titled "A couple of nice ideas about getting into the world of services business", I would certainly give it 5 star. But a combination of this book's actual name and its $40 cost only earns a 3 star rating.
