At one time it seemed that everthing I touched turned to gold. I was motivated also, like the author, by an impoverished childhood. As a successful adult, I had everything I wanted and needed. I now find myself rising out of the ashes of a number of devastating life changes that I had no control over. I previously loved being in the beauty industry. So I started out on the road again to improve my technical skills. Mission well accomplished. I tried working for a handful of owners and felt myself critical of the way they ran thier business...I ended up with a "bad attitude"! Meanwhile, they were experiencing NO GROWTH, and/or producing NO FRUIT. I really learned what not to do, but I felt that there had to be more to learn (I'm an artist, not a business person.) This book, for me, crystalized, in my mind, a big picture for how to approach building my business. It adressed the easy to overlook mistakes I saw owners making. Especially helpful to me has been the advice to "Create and structure your spa business in a way that is emotionally and financially rewarding to you." So simple...and it was the way I made money in the past, but I never applied this to my work in hair. THIS is how we can avoid the burnout that plauges so many owners. Now I work for myself, and I'm starting small, but this advice and many other simple concepts promoted in this book have already paid dividends. I appreciate that Mr. Lok came from humble beginings and worked "smarter." I apologize to the negative reviewer...I must politely disagree. This book is an easy to reference gem. I will read it more than once. I rarely save books, but this one is staying.
