101 Ways to Market Your Online Jewelry Shop: Free and Cheap Ways to Market, Promote, Advertise, and Increase Traffic to Your Online or Etsy Jewelry Shop and Sell Your Jewelry Now

If you have a well established online shop and are looking for some "out of the box" ideas on how else you can enhance your jewelry sales, this book will definitely offer you some advice. Many sellers will find the tips pretty extreme though ("Write and promote a children's story about your jewelry") and the ideas stop right there, at the highest level ideation stage. If you are looking for tactical advice on how to get the most out of Etsy, or (especially) step-by-step instructions on how to implement the tips, you will be disappointed. Further, the book contains no pictures, is printed in black and white, and at 1-2 paragraphs per page, would only be 30-40 pages if all the white space was left out. Bottomline: we found it overpriced and of little value, but others may benefit from some of the tips.

How to Make Money Using Etsy: A Guide to the Online Marketplace for Crafts and Handmade Products

I've been selling knitted items on Etsy for over a year now, but only recently started getting serious about it. Sales have come in, but they are slow. I wanted to do something to get more buyers. It's just that Etsy has grown to be so big now, unless you're luckly enough to be featured on the main page, your store can get buried (and mine was buried). So, I bought this book and also Etsy Success - How to Make a Full-Time Income Selling Jewelry, Crafts, and Other Handmade Products Online to get ideas on how to get the word out.
The author takes an "internet marketing" approach to the advice he gives. Basically, he has taken the things that have worked for successful internet marketers (who sell ebooks and other products) and shows you how to apply them to your Etsy store. This was a new approach I hadn't thought of.
There's a lot of mention of SEO (search engine optimization) but it wasn't too complicated to understand. He gives really good advice on setting up a blog and that was helpful. There are also interviews with successful bloggers (some of whom I had read before) which were helpful to better understand how a blog works to get new buyers and keep them interested. Reading about their success also really inspired me.
The big thing I learned was that there's a big difference between advertising your Etsy store and marketing it. Marketing takes a little more work, but can lead to the best results, so it is more efficient in the long run.
This book gave me ideas on how I can spend minimal time marketing my store without it turning into a full-time job, so I have the best of both worlds. This was especially important to me, because I still need time to knit! :)

So far this book looks great to promote my two shops on Etsy (selling French items, home decor,Jewelry etc.)
How I wish I had this book when I first opened my shop almost a year ago! I struggled so much, and often the Etsy admin is too busy too help. I haven't spent as much time as I'd like with this book yet, but I can tell you that it is a wonderful base to start with. Great for anyone starting a Shop on Etsy or who is lost in the "Etsy maze". I am now an experienced Etsian, and not surprisingly, this book also has unique and useful ideas for seasoned Etsyans as well.
The index is great, which is rare in books now days. It has about 17 pages of index, and is very useful and detailed. It also has a quick summary or overview for "contents at a glance", and a detailed table of contents also.
It has great headlines and graphics. The book is very dense, as the type isn't too small, but not big either because there is so much info.
The time-tested formula of the dummies format is proven and wonderful. I am not surprised how well I could find everything, and even found new ideas.
There are lots of tips and icons to guide you along the way, warnings etc.
I will update this review as I read more.
Pros: very dense and full of informations for new Etsyan
Cons: maybe not as useful for the more experienced Etsyan
