eBoot Camp: Proven Internet Marketing Techniques to Grow Your Business Review

I have developed several hundred websites over the last decade, optimized them for Google, and have literally made millions for my clients. So while most web marketing books may not present me with new techniques, I have still given five-star reviews to those that I think others would find useful.
Not only is this book a weak primer with plenty of page filler, but Perlman's suggestions can actually hurt your marketing results. Chapter 4 is dedicated to your keywords meta tag, yet Perlman doesn't realize nor does he mention that Google's algorithms have completely ignored the keywords tag for years. When discussing title tags, he makes no mention of easy mistakes that will get websites penalized or even blacklisted from Google. Perlman encourages reciprocal link exchanges with other webmasters (with no mention of anchor text), but never explains that some links can be worthless, and others can get you banned from Google.
The only effective marketing angles that Perlman barely scratches the surface on are writing articles, press releases, and blogging. I can point out several books for the same amount of money that contain ten times as much useful information for newbies and designers alike, such as Web Marketing All-in-One Desk Reference For Dummies, and Web Copy That Sells.
I bought this book (Amazon verified) because there were almost 50 glowing reviews. What I failed to notice was that 90% of the reviewers have written only one review. Most of them refer to the author by his first name, and suggest that they've been to his seminars. The testimonials in his book are from other authors, and not a single one of them are web developers or online marketing experts. Perlman himself seems to have no background in web design or internet marketing (there's zero mention of either on his sites or in his book).
Countless other web marketing books will help you more in the long run, and will actually tell you how not to get banned from Google. I'm not even upset that I bought it, I'm upset that so many people new to web marketing will buy it, and do a major disservice to promoting their business.

Millions of Women Are Waiting to Meet You: A Memoir Review

Millions of Women Are Waiting to Meet You: A Memoir

This is one man's journey to find the brass ring in his life...namely, love.
Sean Thomas' sometimes wistful, often times downright hilarious look at one man's attempt to find love in the technological age is a marvel to read. Filled with witty observations about the world and relationships, Millions of Women Are Waiting To Meet You never fails to disappoint. His prose is at once boastful and yet self deprecating and he fires away at the foibles of each sex with both barrels.
I highly recommend this title for anyone who either has found it or is still looking.

I'm Stalking Jake Review

I'm Stalking Jake
Average Reviews:

I was expecting this book to be a quick read about a young woman chasing after a movie star. I was pleasantly surprised to instead read a thoughtful, engaging, and sometimes heartbreaking story about pop culture, the Internet, and the people we all know (maybe you're one of them) who are a little too invested in both.
The book takes you through the life of the author's blog, starting with Brokeback Mountain and ending with Heath Ledger's death. Despite the title, though, it's not a book about Jake Gyllenhaal and the author doesn't shy away from acknowledging her larger personal interests in writing the blog. The book is laugh-out-loud funny in places and entertaining throughout. It's also brutally honest about the celebrities and the fans involved, though it artfully stays above being a gossipy tell-all.
For anyone who knows anyone (or is someone) who loves pop culture, is part of an online community, or even is just feeling lost about their direction in life, this book has a lot of insight to offer. It's also for any celebrity who has ever turned down a fan for an autograph. This story proves you really never know who's doing the asking (or why). Highly recommended.

It was a standard-issue celebrity crush. It was 2006, Brokeback Mountain was inspiring critical acclaim and late night talk show jokes alike--and there was Becky Heineke, thinking Jake Gyllenhaal was looking pretty good. She was twenty-four, two years out of college, and had nothing better to do ... which is how she wound up joining a girl she'd never met to write a blog called Jake Watch.Over the blog's nineteen-month run, there were movie premieres, a movie script, a legitimately stupid Internet rumor (accidental), one highly unsuccessful presidential campaign, a lost puggle, and a T-shirt business that may or may not have violated international copyright laws. But Jake Watch also aged its two writers more than its life span might suggest. While countless books have been written about celebrities, blogs, and the impact of the Internet on our changing culture, there hasn't, until now, been a book that exemplifies their influence on the first generation to grow up obsessed with all three.I'm Stalking Jake! is a memoir unique to the age in which it was written, a comedy about the drama of growing up and reaching out in the era of Internet addiction and celebrity infatuation.

Genealogy Online 9/E Review

Genealogy Online 9/E

I just finished reading over "Genealogy Online" newest edition - for the first time. Obviously, this newest Millennium Edition is one that I will be using for reference on a continual basis. Ms. Crowe's newest revision is not only a very precise tool for guidance in on-line research, but also a wealth of information for all levels of genealogists. In the ever-changing world of the Internet it is very hard to present the "newest and best" of sites to hit. This book does that and more!

The book was brand new, in excellent condition. However, when I performed an ISBN search, it said it came with a CD. This book did not come with a CD when I received it.

READING FOR RESULTS, 11e, is the mid-level text in the ever-popular reading series by Laraine Flemming, which includes READING KEYS (beginning level) and READING FOR THINKING (advanced level). This hallmark developmental reading text is filled with stimulating readings that range in length from single paragraphs to textbook excerpts. Chapters and explanations are carefully structured so that each skill builds on the previous one until students are ready to tackle longer, multi-paragraph selections. By Chapter 11, "More on Purpose, Tone, and Bias," students are ready to think about the basic structure of an argument and lay the foundations for critical thinking. The 11th edition features a wealth of enhancements. A new Chapter 7, "Drawing Inferences from Visual Aids," shows students how to read and interpret charts and graphs, as well as how such visuals connect to the text. The 11th edition also includes increased emphasis on vocabulary building, with over two hundred new words - many drawn from academic texts - which are introduced in context and defined in footnotes. A new "Summing Up the Key Points" box presents the chapter's key concepts; a few pages later, a brief "Check Your Understanding" quiz asks students to recap those key concepts. And techniques of outlining and diagramming are presented with visual examples for students to follow as well as diagrams to complete.

Ultimate Guide to Search Engine Optimization: Drive Traffic, Boost Conversion Rates and Make Lots of Money (Entrepreneur Magazine's Ultimate Guides) Review

Ultimate Guide to Search Engine Optimization: Drive Traffic, Boost Conversion Rates and Make Lots of Money (Entrepreneur Magazine's Ultimate Guides)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This SEO guide favors natural search over paid search. And half of the book is devoted to indirect topics.
This guide has some SEO good content but stops short. As Amazon points out, the book is illustrated, but the illustrations are not of SEO examples. And they're so faint and small as to be illegible. The book is missing examples of SEO in general. For example, what's the best way to work meaningful hypertext into a backlinked article? What's the best way to avoid a duplicate content penalty when creating a media room or distributing content?
Another issue with the book is the content which is semi-useful. There are lists and lists of resource links in the back but they have no descriptions. The chapter about psychographics is simplistic to the point of inaccuracy and isn't integrated with the rest of the book. The chapter on black-hat SEO is interesting but not overly useful. And there's a whole chapter devoted to long-tail keywords which combined may not surpass the results of primary keywords. The small chapter on conversion can't do the topic justice. The individual sections on dumping a server log to Excel and outbound links are intriguing but just plain confusing.
One more issue with the book is the lack of information, ex. on important HTML and page layout techniques that can boost SEO, on the fact that many search engines feed each other. Paid search content glosses over ad creation and omits bid strategy. The resource links in the back omit one of the major web analytics firms and all search engine monitoring sites.
While this book has some merit, it should have stuck with SEO specifically (not site development, psychographics, conversion, etc.) and provided more detail. As it is, it cannot be used as a sole reference. And the title's implication that the book can help the reader "make lots of money" is misleading. Even good SEO doesn't guarantee that.
