Great book to start programming in the new Windows Phone 7.
Clearly explained and very progressive in content and examples that will teach. And not only that they are well explained, they are very complete, and that goes from the basic components of an application to the use of Web services.
On the downside, and it is something you see much in the last books that are coming out, is that just touches XNA, just one chapter focuses on Silverligth. So if you want to make applications, this book is an excellent choice, but if you also want to enter the world of games, we should find something else.
Estupendo libro para comenzar a programar en los nuevos Windows Phone 7.
Claramente explicado y muy progresivo en los contenidos y ejemplos que va enseñando. Y ya no es solo que estén bien explicado, además son muy completos, ya que va desde los componentes básicos de una aplicación, hasta el uso de servicios web.
En el lado negativo, y es algo que se ve mucho en los últimos libros que están saliendo, es que apenas toca XNA, apenas un capítulo y se centra en Silverligth. Así que si quieres hacer aplicaciones, este libro es una excelente elección, pero si también quieres entrar en el mundo de los juegos, habría que buscar otra cosa.

Divided into four parts, the book gets things rolling in Part One by introducing in the first three chapters foundational concepts such as: what is REST, how are RESTful Services different from SOAP-based Services, what functionalities are provided and not provided out of the box in ADO.Net Data Services (e.g., no built-in authentication mechanism, etc), what's entailed in building and consuming such services, and what are the best practices for debugging and handling concurrency, security, and service exceptions. The single chapter in Part Two provides commentaries and suggestions on how to add ADO.Net Data Services to legacy applications so that investments in existing code is preserved while creating a new path for evolving new functionalities. The next four chapters in Part Three are, for me, the meatiest part of the book. This is where the authors show you how to integrate ADO.Net Data Services with different types of client technologies such as ASP.Net, Ajax, Silverlight, Popfly Mashups and Biztalk. Each of these chapters include a discussion of the client technology, what issues you may encounter when attempting to consume ADO.Net Data Services and how to resolve or workaround those issues. Building Websites with DotNetNuke 5 Review

(More customer reviews)I wish that this book was available when I started using DNN 1.5 years ago. It takes you though the installation, then introduces you to the basic concepts, and explains some things that you "must get around to figuring out what it does".
There is a middle section that then explains a little about the core and about the web.config, which are extremely useful, and they are the first documentation I have seen on that subject area.
Finally, the third section, is the brilliant examples from Michaels site on how to build modules easily. If you have not built a module, you will love this.
This book will suit a complete beginner but it will also suit a developer that wants to learn DNN and wants to learn how to program modules.
To followed on from the previous reviewer, my father always said about Country music that it is the chords you leave out that are he nicest. Michael Washington has a particular style, he cuts to the chase and tells you what you want to know without the fluff.
I have five DNN books now, but this is the best. I repeat, I wish I could have bought it a year ago.

(More customer reviews)Pro ASP.net 3.5: This book is a must to have book for anyone who is starting/ switching their careers to developing web applications using asp.net technologies. The authors Matthew MacDonald and Mario Szpuszta, has done a very good job of covering all sections that are useful for beginners as well as middle level developers.
For example, if you are seeing Visual Studio for the first time in your life, they dedicated a whole chapter on how to use visual studio. The reason I brought up this point is they kept the beginners in mind and they didn't leave any assumptions that the reader already know how to use Visual Studio.
At the same time for those middle level developers who wants to dive into newly released hot technologies like Ajax, LINQ and Silverlight you won't be disappointed. They have dedicated individual chapters for each of those topics. As I have been developing asp.net application from last several years, I opened this book to see what I can read about Linq and Silverlight. I enjoyed those chapters as they give you an introduction and a good kick start. I am surprised that the authors also dedicated a whole chapter for website deployment (Chapter 18) where the architectures of IIS 5.0, 6.0 and then 7.0 is explained. That is awesome that they have discussed installation of IIS 7.0 and explained the architecture as well as the new Configuration model of IIS 7.0. Everything is explained with the help of screen shots.
Of course I took for granted for all those core concepts of asp.net like developing Http Handlers, Http Modules, Customer Server controls, Custom Membership and profile providers, Security. They are all covered and are very well explained in individual chapters.
Given the broadness of the subject, the authors done a great job of covering all areas in depth methodically that way you won't be lost.
I enjoyed this book so much that I would definitely recommend this book to any .Net Web Developer and this book is going to take some space on my desk.

Marco's style of writing is clear (I've read his Flex Solutions book too), and straight to the point.
He guides the audience at a nice pace.
The source code included in the book is sound and I haven't run into a problem with it.
I like the way the theory and material tend to get concentrated, and this allows me to learn something about HTML5 when I need it or in my 15 minutes spare time, one piece a time.
It covers all the topics of a basic and advanced text including: sending multi-bitrate videos to different devices, creating custom video components, designing a canvas with custom gradients, capturing and drawing images , storing data offline using the Web SQL Databases, dragging data from the desktop into the browser, creating HTML5 WebSockets.
I would highly recommend it to anyone getting started here.
